  • To check the OS version currently running on your BlackBerry smartphone, from your Main Screen, go to Options, then select About.
  • Check with your network carrier or device manufacturer for instructions on how to upgrade your device’s OS.
  • Poynt is not tested against unofficial OS versions, and unpredictable behavior may occur on devices operating such software.

2. Download Instructions

On your BlackBerry smartphone, using BlackBerry® Browser, go to http://m.mypoynt.com

If your device is supported, you will be directed to a download link.

  • Click the download link
  • Please wait while the application is installed to your device

Please note that this application has data usage requirements. Although Poynt is a free service, data charges from your carrier may apply. By downloading and using Poynt, you agree to the Terms and Conditions.

3. Getting started

Once installation is complete, a Poynt icon will be available on the ribbon of your BlackBerry smartphone’s Main Screen. To get started, select and click the Poynt icon.

4. Terms of Use

Please review and accept the Terms of Use to use Poynt.

5. Permissions

A number of features in Poynt require that you enable permissions on your BlackBerry smartphone. These can include GPS use, phone access, and emailing search results. Depending on your device’s settings, you will be prompted whenever these permissions are required.

To set your device’s permissions manually, from your device’s main screen, select Options -> Security Options -> Application Permissions.

6. Homescreen

Poynt opens to the Homescreen, where you can choose which type of search you would like to do:

  • Business Search
  • Movies Search
  • Maps & Directions

Make your selection by clicking the desired search type.

You can return to the Homescreen at any time by pressing the Enter key, or the grey Back button at the top of each page.

7. The Location Bar

At any time, you can select the Location Bar at the top of the screen to change your search location.

Available options are:

  • My GPS Location (default) – Poynt will use coordinates from your device’s GPS chip, if available, or cell-site location based on cell tower signals, to determine your current location, and provide search results near you.
  • New Search Location – Use this feature to manually enter a search location. You can use a street address, city name, zip/postal code or landmark, anywhere in the U.S. or Canada.
  • Save Location – You can save any location (GPS, cell-site or manually entered) for easy access later. Save your work, home, grandma’s place, or just an interesting spot you were passing by on the street. Saved locations are kept in a separate tab, accessed from the Location Bar.

From the Title Bar, you can also choose from a list of your last five manually- entered search locations. To delete
saved locations, please see the section on Options & Settings.

8. The GPS Indicator

Located at the top right of your screen, the GPS indicator has three settings:

  • GPS location found (green) – Your device’s GPS chip has successfully obtained a GPS lock.
  • Cell-site location found (blue) – Your cell-site location has successfully been found. This is less precise than a true GPS lock, and is only used when your search location is set to My GPS Location, but GPS coordinates are unavailable.
  • GPS unavailable (red) – Your device has been unable to obtain a GPS lock. GPS coordinates can take several minutes to obtain, and require line-of-sight communications with GPS satellites. If you are indoors, standing near a window can greatly improve connectivity.
